First things first: I apologize for poor picture quality. This is a Digital Venturis FX-2 which I rescued from work before it was thrown out. The power supply was dead so I have kludged in a replacement. I got the chassis, mainboard, and riser; the rest I've added. The machine was designed to run Windows NT Workstation but does quite well in OpenBSD and Linux as well. cpu_vrm.jpg closer shot of the VRM. a different VRM ($9 from Compaq) would permit use of a K6-200 or a Pentium MMX 166-233. Also note the large black duct - there is a fan in it to provide cooling for the CPU. mboard.jpg overhead view of the mainboard. Intel's i430TX chipset was the last one they made for socket 7 architecture, and supports SDRAM, USB, and UDMA/33 IDE. The video chip is an S3 Trio64V2/GX ports.jpg I/O ports. LPT, kbd, mouse, USB, video, serial. riser.jpg view of the riser board showing slots. top ISA, bottom PCI, middle slot 1 of either. The IDE and floppy ports are also located on the riser to the front. supply_mod.jpg This shows how I clipped the corner of a standard ATX supply to allow it to fit in under the connection to the board. The original supply was some dinky little piece of doodoo; the replacement is a 235 watt model. The supply itself was tossed out by my employer as it had a cut ground wire in one of the drive leads; I spliced and shanked it. The supply has more leads than the chassis has drive bays. Originally the hard drive was designed to sit on top of the supply...but this is no longer an option due to the size of the new supply. supply_rear.jpg shows the rear of the unit after I finished the job. The supply is fastened to the bottom of the case with a riveted metal clip. top_view.jpg is just that. there are 2 5.25" half-height drive bays in the lower right. Other miscellaneous stuff about this machine... 512k pipeline burst L2 cache 1mb video memory, expandable to twice that with a proprietary module CR2032 clock battery in a socket CPUs supported are Pentium 100-200, Pent MMX 166-233, and K6 166-200. I have a Pentium 133 in it now. A different VRM is needed for MMX or K6 CPU. 3 DIMM slots - since bus speed is only 66MHz any speed SDRAM will work in it. I think it can hold up to 128 x 3 = 384mb. The documentation is somewhere on www.compaq.com. I should have saved it when I found it.
